R4 SDHC

R4 SDHC

Many people wonder what the main difference between the R4 SDHC and R4i is, or if there is any. Well the main confusion seems to be that they both look the same on the outside judging by the package and there is little to say what the difference is. There is very little difference in the two cards, well in at least how they operate, both take a Micro SD or SDHC memory card and act as a means to allowing you to playback your own media files on your console such as music, movies, photos and games. Now thanks to developments in eBook technology you can also read eBooks using the R4 SDHC or R4i.

The main difference between the two devices is that the R4 SDHC and R4 work with the Nintendo DS and DS lite consoles whereas the R4i SDHC works with the Nintendo DSi and DSi XL consoles and is also backwards compatible with the older DS and DS lite. So basically the R4i SDHC can do everything the R4 SDHC and R4 SDHC can do plus more. This is the main reason why the R4i SDHC is becoming the number one selling flashcard worldwide. There is also a newer device called the R4 SDHC 3DS which works with Nintendo's new 3DS console and supports the latest firmware updates from the Nintendo corporation, all three devices the R4 SDHC, R4i and R4 SDHC 3DS work with the Nintendo DS, DS lite, DSi, DSi XL and the R4 SDHC 3DS also works with the 3DS console as a bonus.

Technology inside the cards is practically the same, although on the new models reliability has been increases along with faster loading times and easier to follow graphic user interface. All in all we'd recommend the R4 SDHC for DS and DS lite users, the R4i for DSi and DSi XL users and the R4 SDHC 3DS for 3DS console users.
